Bang & Olufsen’s 40-year-old turntable just got a bronze makeover, and there’s only 100

TL;DR

  • Bang & Olufsen (B&O) has recreated its 1985 turntable, the Beogram 3000, with a premium aesthetic.
  • The Beogram 3000c Dune Grey Edition also features a pair of Beolab 8 speakers with wireless playback.
  • Strictly a collector’s item, it costs $30,000 and comes in a limited, numbered series of 100.

In 1985, the Danish luxury audio brand Bang & Olufsen (B&O) delivered the iconic vinyl record deck, Beogram 3000, with a modern design by contemporary standards, reminiscent of the wedge era, and an electronically controlled tangential arm, also a rarity at the time. While many collectors have still held on to the original equipment, B&O has refashioned the vintage equipment as part of its Recreated Classics program — and the larger vinyl revival movement.

B&O recently unveiled what it calls the “Beosystem 3000c Dune Grey Edition,” comprising the original Beogram 3000 from 40 years ago and a pair of modern Beolab 8 wireless speakers, which also feature a similar floating design. The Beogram 3000 units used here are actually refurbished versions of the original turntable, and come in a very limited set of 100. Each of these is numbered as proof of its rarity. As part of the refurbishment, B&O is replacing the plastic back cover with a timeless dark-stained walnut veneer and adding a transparent dust cover to the original design.

In its announcement, Bang & Olufsen notes the bronze aluminum chassis and the dark walnut inserts are “inspired by the tones and textures of the Nordic coastline.”

Beyond the design, the Beosystem 3000c Dune Grey Edition also features Bluetooth 5.3 and supports Google Cast, Apple AirPlay, and Deezer, among other streaming ecosystems.

A similar refurb came last year, with minimal differences, including a lighter shade of walnut and an aluminum chassis, and it was sold for an eye-watering $30,000. Despite that astronomical price, last year’s units reportedly sold out in a month. The same could be expected of this collection as well.

Once again, B&O has priced the system at $30,000, but you won’t be able to buy it online. However, you can experience it during a private session at one of the five stores worldwide. You can book your sessions here.
