Edifier takes another swing at the Marshall Emberton with better audio and a much lower price

Edifier recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with the launch of several new audio products, including headphones, desktop monitors, and a tiny subwoofer, at IFA 2026. Just weeks later, it is back with another launch, revealing the second generation of its tiny tabletop wireless speaker, the M230 (sold globally as the “MP230”).

The new Edifier M230 II, listed on China’s JD Mall (via Gizmochina), brings upgraded drivers and improved Bluetooth connectivity in the same wooden enclosure with a retro appeal. With this, it closely rivals the Marshal Emberton III portable speaker, which offers a comparable output and a similar retro appeal.

Up from the first-gen’s 20W output, the Edifier M230 II now offers a 26W output. However, instead of two full-range drivers, the M230 II uses a 48x80mm mid-bass driver backed by a 22mm tweeter. This also results in a slightly bigger footprint, increasing the speaker’s length by 8mm and height by 2mm.

Hidden under the metal mesh on the back, you’ll still find a passive radiator, just like the previous generation. Despite the tweaked dimensions, the speaker still features a similar design from the front, with retro-style push-down buttons for power, Bluetooth mode, play/pause, and volume. In addition to buttons, the speaker can also be controlled with Edifier’s companion app.

It comes in three colors that complement the retro appeal, including a wooden brown, a moss green, and white. The metal grille in each case is color-coded to match the outer shell.

Along with the upgraded drivers, the M230 II also gets a bigger 5,200mAh battery — twice as big as the first-gen. This is claimed to double the backup to up to 14 hours, though the actual backup will vary with loudness and other factors.

Another major upgrade is the Edifier M230 II’s support for Bluetooth 6.0. The speaker also supports dual device connectivity, along with playback via an SD card. You can also combine two of these for a stereo setup.

The Edifier M230 II is priced at CNY 399 (~$60) and will be available at a limited-time discount of CNY 359 (~$54). There’s no word on the launch of the global version, which could very well be dubbed the MP230 II, but we’ll keep you posted on that as soon as we find out.
