Motorola has officially unveiled the Moto Buds 2 and Moto Buds 2 Plus at MWC 2026. The former are Motorola’s more affordable option, leaning into longer battery life and a lower price. The latter add Sound by Bose tuning, CrystalTalk AI, and Audio Share. Fortunately, both are packed with handy features, including Hi-Res audio with LHDC, spatial audio, dynamic ANC, and Bluetooth 6.0. Here’s what separates the two and which one might make more sense for you.
The Moto Buds 2 target sub-$100 buyers with long battery life
Motorola positions the Moto Buds 2 as its everyday option, and on paper, they look surprisingly full-featured. For example, the earbuds use an 11mm dynamic driver paired with a 6mm micro planar magnetic driver. In theory, this combination should support strong bass and prominent treble presentation. Of course, driver configuration alone doesn’t guarantee performance, so we’ll need to test the buds in the lab to establish their true sound quality.
Outside of driver systems, the Moto Buds 2 support dynamic ANC capable of attenuating outside sounds by 55dB. They also feature transparency mode and Hi-Res wireless audio with the LHDC Bluetooth codec. The latter supports up to 900kbps, 24-bit/ 92kHz audio sampling under ideal conditions. The earbuds run Bluetooth 6.0 with dual-device connectivity, and movie fans can use spatial audio for surround sound. Gaming Mode is also present for low-latency audio, and the buds’ six-microphone array is handy for taking calls.
Most impressively, Motorola rates the Moto Buds 2’s battery life at up to 11 hours, with up to 48 hours with the case. This is far above the industry average, and topping up the buds for 10 minutes delivers up to 3 hours of playback. The earbuds support advanced AI features with compatible Motorola devices. These allow quick access to reminders, notification summaries, and other assistant-style tools without pulling out your phone. The Moto Buds 2 will roll out across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific in the coming weeks for €79 (~$92). There’s no confirmed US availability yet.
The Moto Buds 2 Plus add Sound by Bose and advanced call features
Stepping up to the Moto Buds 2 Plus gets you Sound by Bose tuning and 11mm dynamic drivers paired with balanced armatures from Knowles. Like the standard model, you also receive support for Bluetooth 6.0, the LHDC codec, multipoint connectivity, spatial audio, dynamic ANC, and a 6-mic array.
Where the Plus model differentiates itself is in call performance and smart features. Motorola highlights a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and an app-enabled CrystalTalk AI mode. This reduces background noise and focuses on the speaker’s voice during calls. Additionally, you receive wear detection for automatic play/pause, AI-powered live translation, and meeting transcription and summarization. Many of these AI features require the Moto Buds companion app.
Audio Share also makes an appearance, allowing two pairs of Moto Buds 2 Plus earbuds to connect to the same phone (same model required), and you can also customize the touch controls. Battery life is slightly shorter than the standard model, with up to 9 hours on a single charge and up to 40 hours with the case. Meanwhile, a 10-minute charge yields about 2 hours of playback. Athletes will appreciate the earbuds’ water-resistant IPX4 rating. The Moto Buds 2 Plus will also launch in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific, priced at €149 (~$173). Color options include Pantone Cool White and Pantone Silhouette.
What this means for buyers
The Moto Buds 2 Plus feature Audio Share, which lets you connect two pairs of the earbuds to a single device.
Motorola clearly split the lineup along practical lines. First, the Moto Buds 2 prioritize battery life and value while keeping core features like ANC, LHDC, and spatial audio. Meanwhile, the Moto Buds 2 Plus add Bose tuning and more robust AI-driven call and productivity tools.
From a spec perspective, both models check the boxes consumers expect in 2026. The differentiator will be real-life sound quality, performance, and ANC effectiveness. For now, Motorola has made an aggressive play in both the sub-$100 and sub-$200 segments. If the measured performance matches the feature list, the Moto Buds 2 and Moto Buds 2 Plus could become serious contenders in their respective price tiers.
