Samsung could launch its first clip-on wireless Galaxy Buds very soon

While Samsung has launched wireless earbuds featuring various form factors, most have utilized an in-ear fit. Earlier this year, reports revealed the company is also developing clip-on-style earbuds, the Galaxy Buds On. Now, the company appears very close to launching them.

Yesterday, the Galaxy Buds On, bearing the model number SM-U600, cleared Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification. This means Samsung has received the go-ahead from the US government, suggesting the earbuds could arrive in the coming weeks.

The FCC documentation reveals that the Galaxy Buds On has Bluetooth with support for EDR, LE (1Mbps and 2Mbps), and Qualcomm High Speed (QHS 2Mbps, 3Mbps, 4Mbps, 5Mbps, and 6Mbps) modes. So, it appears that the earbuds might have some form of relatively higher-resolution audio support (likely SSC-UHQ).

We first leaked the basic design of the Galaxy Buds On two months ago, followed by a detailed visual leak last week. The earbuds are meant to be worn around the ear’s helix. The outer, visible area features a flat surface, likely for touch controls, while the portion sitting in the ear concha is bulbous and presumably houses the audio driver.

The Galaxy Buds On reportedly lack active noise cancellation (ANC) and 360 Audio. This omission is quite understandable, as the open-ear design doesn’t create a physical seal in the ear, so the ambient noise in naturally let in, making ANC relatively ineffective.

The earbuds will reportedly include Auto Volume and Volume Boost features. With onboard support for Bixby and Gemini, users might also be able to record audio and summarize the transcribed text to save as ideas or meeting notes in Samsung Notes.

Based on the FCC documentation related to label placement, the earbuds will have a rounded square-shaped case, similar to the Galaxy Buds 2 series and the Galaxy Buds 4 series. The case also seems to feature a USB Type-C charging port and a pairing button beside it.
