Samsung’s smart glasses to face competition from Apple next year

Samsung revealed more information about its Intelligent Eyewear smart glasses last week. Built with Gemini in mind, the company’s Intelligent Eyewear comes in multiple styles. It could face stiff competition from Apple’s first smart glasses sometime next year.

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to unveil its first smart glasses at the WWDC 2027 developer conference in July 2027. The iPhone maker’s smart glasses will reportedly go on sale in late 2027. Since there could be a few months between the announcement of the glasses and their availability, developers would have enough time to build apps for them.

Apple’s smart glasses are said to carry the codename N50. They were originally supposed to debut this year, but the company reportedly postponed their launch following privacy concerns surrounding smart glasses, such as Meta’s. They will most likely feature Apple’s upgraded Siri and have a camera and speakers onboard.

Previous reports have claimed that Apple’s first-generation smart glasses will not have a built-in display, similar to Samsung’s smart glasses. Both companies are expected to equip their second-generation smart glasses with an AR color display in one lens.

Apple is also planning to launch two new smartwatches, the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, later this year. They will compete with the recently announced Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
