One UI 9 lets you uninstall SwiftKey Keyboard from Galaxy phones

Besides Samsung’s own apps, Galaxy phones and tablets come pre-installed with apps from Google and Microsoft, and not all of them are useful. One such app is SwiftKey, which few users end up using since Samsung Keyboard is the default option. Previously, it could not be uninstalled completely, and One UI 9.0 changes that.

We discovered that phones running One UI 9.0 let you completely uninstall the Microsoft SwiftKey AI Keyboard app. We were able to uninstall it on our Galaxy S26 Ultra running One UI 9.0 Beta 5, and it freed up around 55MB of storage on our phone.

Uninstalling the keyboard app was not possible when the phone ran One UI 8.5. The most you could do was uninstall its updates and disable it so it would not bother you anymore.

We also noticed that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra do not come with the SwiftKey Keyboard app pre-installed. The same is likely true for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, as it runs One UI 9.0 out of the box. Some recent Galaxy A series phones, like the Galaxy A57, don’t come with SwiftKey pre-installed.

Samsung and Microsoft had a long-running agreement to pre-install Microsoft apps like Office, OneDrive, OneNote, and SwiftKey on Galaxy phones. OneDrive was also integrated into the stock Gallery and My Files apps in One UI, while OneNote is integrated with Samsung Notes. Microsoft To Do is also integrated with Samsung Reminders.

Samsung recently ended support for OneDrive integration within its Gallery app to backup images and videos, so it appears their deal is no longer active. And that could be the reason Samsung is allowing users to uninstall SwiftKey from devices running One UI 9.0.
