TL;DR

  • Xiaomi has launched its open-ear Redmi Buds 8 Active on its global website.
  • The earbuds feature an unoccluded fit, an IP54 rating, and 14.2mm dynamic drivers.
  • Interested parties can purchase the earbuds from Amazon for $33.99.

The open-ear headphone market is booming, with more and more options available with every glance. This time, Xiaomi has released the long-awaited Redmi Buds 8 Active on its global website. These were initially launched in China, before being made available across Europe. Now, shoppers in the US can purchase the buds on Amazon for just $33.99.

For the price, you receive an AirPods 4-style design shipping in Matte Black, Milky White, and Translucent Blue colorways. That means no ear tips, which is ideal if you find putting objects in your ear canals uncomfortable. However, without a tight seal, the Redmi Buds 8 Active do not feature active noise cancellation. This isn’t necessarily a problem for athletes, provided you know this before purchasing.

The buds feature 14.2mm, titanium-plated dynamic drivers.

Under the hood are 14.2mm dynamic drivers with a titanium-coated diaphragm. Xiaomi claims this enhances transient response in midrange and treble frequencies. Connectivity-wise, the earbuds support Bluetooth 5.4 with the SBC and AAC codecs. There are also 5 EQ presets and a 10-band custom EQ to hone your sound. You can even use the Redmi Buds 8 Active for calls, thanks to their dual-microphone array and AI noise-rejection algorithm.

The earbuds advertise a 7-hour battery life, with an additional 37 hours from the charging case. When you’re in a bind, you can fast-charge the buds for 10 minutes to receive two hours of listening time. Like the recently announced Redmi Buds 8 Pro, the Active model support Multipoint connectivity, Google Fast Pair, and integration with the Xiaomi Earbuds app.
