TL;DR

  • Deezer has launched a new feature called Flow Tuner.
  • This provides users with greater control over their algorithmic Flow playlists.
  • The feature is available now. However, some users have noticed issues.

Deezer has just unveiled a discovery and personalization feature called Flow Tuner. This allows users to take greater control over their algorithmic Flow playlists. Now, listeners can see which genres are influencing their Flow playlist and decide whether specific tracks are relevant.

The new feature also allows you to toggle genres in real-time, offering greater personalization depending on your mood. You can also add new genres, letting Flow recommend artists and styles you haven’t heard before. Deezer claims that this will prevent its algorithm from locking listeners into a recurring loop of recommendations.

Deezer’s latest feature is available via the main Flow wheel on the desktop app. Here, you can click “Tune this Flow” and select your preferred genres. On mobile, listeners can select “Fine-tune this Flow” and select their desired genres from the Tune Flow screen.

Unfortunately, some users have noticed that the feature appears sporadically on desktop, and Deezer has removed its “Discovery” and “Favorite” toggles. The company has acknowledged this, stating that “The old toggle was replaced with dedicated Flows for Discovery and Favorites. There’s currently a bug where they don’t show up in the Flow wheel, but the team is handling it. For now, the workaround is to launch them directly from the homepage—they’re in the carousel if you scroll a bit.” Consequently, you won’t see discoveries from one specific genre. Hopefully, these bugs will be fixed in the coming days.
