Major SmartThings app redesign finally hits Galaxy phones

Earlier this week, Samsung’s SmartThings app received a major UI redesign, but it was initially limited to iPhones. Now, the update has started reaching Galaxy and other Android phones as well. It gives the app a much more modern look compared to previous versions, just as we demanded.

Redesigned SmartThings app is now rolling out for Android

The new version (1.8.51.30) of the app is now available for select Galaxy smartphone and tablet users. It features lighter colors and a compact, floating tab bar at the bottom. At the top of the screen, you will find buttons for your location’s QR code, location selection, map view, adding devices, and the options menu. Below these buttons sits a large card displaying suggestions and important updates.

This is the same design we exclusively leaked months before it went live.

The Home tab shows all your favorite devices and routines. By default, each device or routine card is more compact than before, but you can increase their size by long-pressing the card. Tapping the icon on the card turns the device on or off, while clicking the rest of the card opens more details.

The Devices tab shows all compatible smart home devices in your home, organized by room. You can edit your home’s layout and view it in either 2D or 3D. You can even add furniture like lights, sofas, and wardrobes, along with structural elements and smart home devices to each room.

Overall, the design looks much fresher than before. However, it still lacks the Liquid Glass design language seen on the iOS version of the app.
