Some iPhone 18 Pro Users Experiencing Face ID Issues

Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max began arriving to customers on Friday, and unfortunately some early adopters are experiencing Face ID issues.

According to a Reddit post spotted by 9to5Mac, Face ID authentication for specific actions such as unlocking a locked app sometimes fails to work on the iPhone 18 Pro models, and the device then freezes and eventually reboots to the lock screen. It is unclear how widespread this problem is, but it can be hit or miss and not all users are affected.

In addition, some MacRumors forum members are experiencing other Face ID issues on the iPhone 18 Pro models. First, some are receiving a « Face ID is Not Available » message when attempting to set up Face ID, and others have noted that the devices do not always seem to be respecting the « Require Attention for Face ID » setting when it is enabled.

Apple moved Face ID’s infrared camera underneath the top-left corner of the display on the iPhone 18 Pro models to achieve a smaller Dynamic Island on the devices. It is unclear if this hardware change is related to these Face ID issues, but it is likely that Apple will eventually resolve any new Face ID bugs in a future iOS 27 update.
