Sony just announced two new PS5 headsets, and one packs serious upgrades

Sony is refreshing its PS5 headset lineup with two new wireless headphones, the PlayStation Pulse and the Pulse Edge. Both models are successors to Pulse 3D and Pulse Elite, respectively.

The standard Pulse Wireless seems to be the more affordable headset of the two. It features what Sony calls “studio-inspired” planar magnetic drivers with four magnets per driver. The company says the larger drivers deliver deeper, fuller bass while retaining the clarity and separation of its previous Pulse Elite headset.

The headsets also support PlayStation Link for ultra-low-latency audio and let you switch between compatible devices, including a PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac. Bluetooth devices can also be connected simultaneously.

The Pulse Wireless Headset has an integrated microphone with AI-powered noise rejection to help filter out background sounds during voice chat. It also gets built-in volume controls and a redesigned frame with rotating earcups that let the headset lie flat when you’re carrying it around.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation Pulse Edge headphones take things a step further with more premium features. The planar magnetic drivers in the headphones use eight magnets per driver, compared to four in the standard Pulse headset. Sony says this allows the Edge to deliver richer, deeper bass without sacrificing clarity.

The Edge also adds Active Noise Cancelation and a detachable boom microphone with AI-powered noise rejection for voice chats. There’s also a hidden microphone in there for when the boom is removed.

Other extras in the Pulse Edge include dedicated game audio and chat balance controls for PS5, a 3.5mm audio/microphone jack, and a carrying case. It also uses premium materials.

Availability

Both the Pulse and Pulse Edge will be available in White and Midnight Black. Sony says the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset will launch in select markets during the 2026 holiday season, while the Pulse Edge is scheduled to arrive in early 2027.

The company hasn’t announced pricing or exact release dates for either headset yet. It says more details, including preorder information, launch dates, and pricing, will be revealed later.
