Galaxy Z Fold 8 series sales beat Galaxy Z Fold 7 during first two weeks
According to multiple reports, Samsung’s latest book-style foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, have been a huge hit. A few days ago, the brand revealed that sales of the two phones were 30% higher than those of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Now, another report is shedding more light on their sales figures and success.
Counterpoint Research has published an analysis of the global sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. According to the research firm, sales of Samsung’s latest book-style foldable phones during the first two weeks after their launch were 8% higher than sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 during the first two weeks after its launch.
Sales rise despite increasing smartphone prices
While that figure is impressive on its own, it becomes even more significant considering that it was achieved at a time when smartphone prices were increasing due to rising memory chip prices.
Reportedly, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 accounts for roughly 57% of total Galaxy Z8 series sales. People appear to be favoring the model for its compact footprint and 4:3 aspect ratio inner display, with some describing it as “cute.”
Galaxy Z Fold 8 drives strong demand
Counterpoint Research Associate Director Sujeong Lim said, “We estimate that the Z Fold 8 accounted for roughly 57% of Z8 series sales during the first two weeks after launch, thanks to a clear and compelling value proposition.”
Lim added, “For consumers considering a foldable phone, this product offers additional specification options by providing an attractive aspect ratio that transforms it into a tablet when unfolded, along with a versatile multitasking experience.”
Supply chain constraints may have affected initial sales
She also noted, “Considering that initial supply was not smooth due to stockouts at some retailers, sales of the Z8 are expected to remain relatively stable as supply normalizes. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s successful launch could face its biggest test in the coming weeks.”
Counterpoint Research Associate Director Sujeong Liz Lee said, “Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone next month. Based on current information, it appears to adopt a similar display size and aspect ratio to the Z Fold 8, targeting the high-value premium smartphone market that Samsung has painstakingly built over six generations.”
Lee added, “The most critical competitive landscape in the current premium device market is who will lead the upgrade cycle. Specifically, the key question will be whether Samsung can retain its existing foldable user base and continue converting premium Galaxy users, as Apple taps into its large iPhone Pro and Pro Max user base while also attracting some existing Android foldable users.”
