Samsung ends Galaxy Store purchases on these phones, tablets
Samsung has issued a notice in the Galaxy Store stating that Samsung Checkout, the payment system on the app distribution platform, will stop working on devices running Android 4.x or older versions of the operating system starting August 25, 2026.
It means that on such devices, people will not be able to purchase apps or make in-app purchases through the Galaxy Store. If people attempt to perform those actions, it will show a message saying “Please update our phone’s software and try again” (via Larry S White).
Samsung advises users of such phones and tablets that if there is a software update available for these devices that upgrades the operating system to Android 5.0 or newer, they should install it, which should once again enable Samsung Checkout.
As for the Galaxy smartphones and tablets for which there is no such software update available, Samsung Checkout will no longer be available in the Galaxy Store. The brand says that it has taken this step to “ensure a safe and enhanced payment environment.”
