Samsung starts making OLED panels for new iPad Mini

Samsung Display has been a major supplier of OLED panels for Apple’s products for close to ten years. It all started with the iPhone X in 2017. Since then, the company has supplied OLED panels for various iPhones and iPad Pro models. Now, it has started manufacturing OLED panels for the upcoming iPad Mini.

According to a report from ETNews, Samsung Display started mass-producing OLED panels this month for Apple’s first-ever iPad Mini with an OLED screen. It will replace the standard 60Hz LCD panel used in the iPad Mini (2024) and bring improvements in brightness, color accuracy, contrast, and refresh rate.

This will be the second iPad model to feature an OLED panel, with the iPad Pro (2024) being the first. The OLED-equipped iPad Mini, which uses Samsung Display’s panel, is expected to launch later this year. In the future, even the iPad Air lineup is expected to switch to OLED panels.

Samsung is also making OLED panels for the MacBook Ultra, iPhone 18 Pro series, and iPhone Ultra. While LG Display is a joint supplier for the iPhone 18 Pro series alongside Samsung Display, Samsung is reportedly the sole supplier of OLED panels for the iPhone Ultra and the MacBook Ultra.
