I wanted the Galaxy A27’s brief DeX story to be true, but it ended before it began

Does the Galaxy A27 support Samsung DeX? The question will sound odd to DeX fans who haven’t followed the Galaxy A27’s pre-launch leaks. To everyone else, the answer is simple: no. There’s no Samsung DeX on Samsung’s latest mid-range phone.

The reason I can even ask this with a straight face comes down to a Samsung mishap. Less than two weeks before the Galaxy A27 became official, Samsung prematurely published the A27 product page on its Czech website.

That early listing, surprisingly, mentioned Samsung DeX support for the Galaxy A27.

At first, we assumed it could be a mistake. But I’ll admit, it also triggered something else: I’ve long felt DeX could be much more useful if it expanded beyond Samsung’s premium phones, and this looked like a possible first step in that direction.

So yes, it was easy for me to get my hopes up when I saw DeX tied to the Galaxy A27 on Samsung’s own site, even if only briefly.

In the end, it was too good to be true. The Galaxy A27 was officially announced yesterday, June 25, and Samsung made no mention of DeX anywhere. The phone simply doesn’t support its mobile desktop mode.

I can’t really blame Samsung, even if the early product page shouldn’t have gone live in the first place. If I had to guess, the DeX mention was a simple copy-paste error that would probably have been caught before launch.

DeX on the A27 was never confirmed or even rumored. That’s why I’m not too harsh on the situation. But I can’t help thinking the same thing again: DeX could be far more useful if it actually made its way to cheaper Galaxy phones.

Whether the current low and mid-range hardware could handle DeX is another question entirely. It might not. Still, Samsung’s own listing made that possibility feel just a little higher than it should have.
