Samsung removes creative video feature from Galaxy phones with One UI 8.5

Samsung added several new and improved features to Galaxy phones and tablets with the One UI 8.5 update. However, the company has also removed some features and changed the way how you access others with the new software. One of those features is video filters, which were previously available in the stock Camera app in One UI 8.0.

With the One UI 8.5 update, the video filters option that was available while recording Full HD (1080p) videos at both 30fps and 60fps frame rates has disappeared. We confirmed this by checking the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 7. All three phones offered video filters while running One UI 8.0, but the option is no longer available on the stable One UI 8.5.

Currently, the only way to change the default look of videos is by recording a video first and then editing it using One UI 8.5’s built-in video editor (Samsung Studio). The editor includes 13 built-in filters by default, and you can download eight additional filters developed by Samsung from the Galaxy Store.

There are also dozens of free and paid filter packs available through the Galaxy Store. However, these filters appear to compress videos during processing. For example, a 4K HDR 60fps video file with a size of 467MB was reduced to 334MB after applying a built-in filter in the Samsung Studio app.

Another option for customizing video output is to use the Log video format together with Cinematic LUT profiles, which are available in the Pro Video mode of the stock Camera app in One UI 8.5. This feature debuted with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. LUT profiles can also be applied to Log videos using the phone’s built-in video editor or professional editing software such as DaVinci Resolve.

However, the ability to record Log videos is currently limited to the Galaxy S24 series and newer models.

It remains unclear why Samsung decided to remove video filters, as the company has not provided any official explanation. Even the One UI 9.0 beta update does not restore the feature, suggesting that the removal may have been intentional. Some users seem bummed about the removal.
