Wear OS 7 will bring these new features to your Galaxy Watch

Google unveiled Wear OS 7 at its I/O event yesterday. The latest iteration of its operating system for wearables brings several new features.

They’ll find their way to Samsung’s Galaxy Watch models as well, since the company’s smartwatches run on Wear OS.

Several new features introduced with the latest update

Google says that it has made improvements on the software side to deliver improved battery life. The company claims that average users can expect up to 10% improvement in battery life after upgrading to Wear OS 7.

Select smartwatches will also get Gemini Intelligence later this year. It remains to be seen, though, whether this would be supported on existing models or only on the new smartwatches Samsung is expected to unveil this year.

Wear OS 7 introduces Wear Widgets. They’re flexible and dynamic, providing more expressiveness and consistency. Two new card layouts are supported to deliver more information to users.

The Live Updates feature is also coming to watches with Wear OS 7. This feature will bring real-time information, such as delivery tracking, from a connected device, enabling users to stay on top of things at a glance.

Google is providing more customization options for System Media Controls on Wear OS 7. Users will be able to personalize the auto-launch experience on a per-app basis straight from System Media Controls on the watch.

Since Samsung opts for heavy customization of the user interface on Wear OS devices with its One UI software, it’s likely that we may see additional functionality being offered as part of the Wear OS 7 update.

Google hasn’t said when Wear OS 7 will start rolling out, but it’s likely that we’ll see it arriving before the end of this year.
