Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Everything you need to know

The Galaxy Z Fold 8, expected to launch in July 2026, could be Samsung’s most important foldable phone in years. It may also be the company’s first foldable to face direct competition from Apple, as the iPhone maker is rumored to launch a foldable device, possibly called the iPhone Ultra, later this year.

With 2026 shaping up to be a highly competitive year for foldable smartphones, Samsung is expected to introduce notable improvements with the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The device will likely retain a design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, featuring a slim profile and a refined camera island.

Dimensions

Based on leaked renders, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 measures approximately 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5mm when unfolded and 158.4 x 72.8 x 9mm when folded, making it very similar to its predecessor in terms of size.

The phone is expected to feature an aluminum frame, an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The cover display could be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to feature a 6.5-inch LTPO OLED cover display and an 8-inch LTPO OLED foldable display. The cover screen will likely offer Full HD+ resolution and a 1 to 120Hz variable refresh rate, while the foldable screen could have QHD+ resolution and a similar refresh rate range. Both displays are expected to support HDR10+ and reach peak brightness levels of up to 2,600 nits.

The foldable display could use a new hinge mechanism and an improved OLED panel to deliver a nearly crease-free experience. Samsung Display showcased a crease-free panel at CES 2026, hinting at what the Galaxy Z Fold 8 might offer. It could have a dual-UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) structure.

However, the device may not support the S Pen.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is rumored to bring camera upgrades. It could feature a 200MP primary camera with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera. It is also expected to include 10MP selfie cameras on both the cover and inner displays.

All cameras are expected to support 4K 60fps video recording with HDR10+ and Super HDR. The primary and ultrawide cameras may also support 8K 30fps video recording.

Samsung could equip the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor. It may come with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

Other expected features include 5G, GPS, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB, NFC, and a USB Type-C port with up to 5Gbps transfer speeds. The phone will also feature stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

The device is expected to be powered by a 5,000mAh battery and support up to 45W wired charging, up to 20W Qi2.2 wireless charging, and up to 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will likely run Android 17-based One UI 9 out of the box. In addition to the Galaxy AI features introduced with the Galaxy S26 series, it may include even more AI-driven capabilities.

Samsung is expected to offer up to seven years of operating system and security updates.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has not been officially announced yet, but reports suggest it could be priced similarly to its predecessor to compete with Apple’s upcoming foldable device.

It is expected to start at $1,999.99 for the 256GB variant, with pre-orders likely opening in the last week of July 2026 following its announcement. The device could go on sale in the first or second week of August.
