Leaked images reveal the Sennheiser Momentum 5 and MTW5, and a launch looks imminent
- Regulatory photos of the Sennheiser Momentum 5 and MTW5 have leaked online, showing production-ready hardware
- Both products have passed FCC certification — the MTW5 on April 2, the Momentum 5 on April 7 — suggesting a launch is weeks away
- The Momentum 5 carries over the Momentum 4’s core design with apparent hardware revisions; the MTW5 drops the cloth case and stabilizer wing for a more conventional form factor
Sennheiser appears to be weeks away from launching the next generation of its Momentum lineup. Leaked regulatory photos — first spotted on the Korean audio community 0db.co.kr and now circulating on Reddit — show what appear to be production-ready units of the Momentum 5 (M5AEBT) over-ear headphones and the Momentum True Wireless 5 (MTW5) earbuds. Both products have already cleared FCC certification, and Japan MIC approval, and Korean RRA filings confirm the hardware under Sonova Consumer Hearing GmbH — the entity that now owns and operates Sennheiser’s consumer audio division.
Momentum 5: familiar shape, visible revisions
The Momentum 5 looks a lot like the Momentum 4. The circular ear cups, fabric-covered headband, and metal yoke are all carried over. But the hardware around the yoke joints looks more substantial — potentially addressing the hinge creaking and headband durability complaints that followed the Momentum 4. There is at least one physical button visible on the lower edge of the left ear cup, which could imply a change from the Momentum 4’s touch-only controls, though they may coexist with a touch surface. The inside of the ear cups shows embossed text reading “47MM DYNAMIC DRIVER” and “ENGINEERED IN GERMANY.”
MTW5: new case, new fit
The MTW5 takes a more noticeable visual changeup. The cloth-style charging case that defined the MTW series is gone, replaced by a conventional hard shell. The stabilizing wing that was a polarizing feature of previous MTW earbuds also appears to have been dropped in favor of a more standard in-ear form. The earbuds retain the Sennheiser logo faceplate but with a rounder, more compact housing.
Launch timing and what’s still unknown
FCC certifications filed this recently typically signal a launch within weeks or months. One Reddit commenter claiming to be a headphone reviewer said a local retailer indicated availability within two months, and an August 20 release date has been circulating in the thread — though neither has been verified. Pricing and full specs haven’t surfaced yet.
We’ve reached out to Sennheiser for comment and will update this article if we hear back.
