Today, Sony INZONE announced a new Gaming headset: the Sony INZONE H6 Air. This is an open-back wired gaming headset aimed at players outside the competitive FPS crowd. This time, Sony INZONE is looking at immersive story games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, The Witcher, or the Little Nightmare series. The design is similar, if not identical, to the Sony INZONE H9 II gaming headset, except that it’s open-back. Graduated holes cover the aluminum earcups, which tend to open up the perceived spatial depth of most headsets. Gladly, this also makes the headset lighter, at 199g without the boom mic. It also comes with the same 40mm drivers as the Sony MDR-MV1 open-back studio headphones. Back ducts integrated into the driver unit help deliver controlled bass while maintaining clear separation of mid and low frequencies. However, it does feature the more comfortable spring-hinge headband design of the INZONE H9 II.
Open-back headsets are designed for greater spatial depth and wider spatial width, which can make the environment you’re in sound more natural. The open-back design also makes the Sony INZONE H6 Air more breathable, helping prevent sweat build-up during extended gaming sessions. The bass strength seen from the Sony MDR-MV1 drivers would also make it great for action and RPG games. The included adjustable cardioid boom mic is angled toward the user’s mouth to reject side noise, with a flexible arm that keeps it in place, so you can talk and play co-op games like Lethal Company, Yapyap, or Peak while staying fully immersed in the environment. The INZONE H6 Air includes a USB-C DAC, which gives you access to the Sony INZONE app for the new Immersive: RPG/Adventure preset. The Sony INZONE H6 Air is available for $199.99 USD at Amazon and the Sony website.
Sony has also released a new transparent colorway for the Sony INZONE buds: Glass Purple. The buds are now available in black, white, and glass purple, for $239.99 USD. Honestly, Sony has been doing very well in targeting a specific gaming audience. This makes me excited to try out the INZONE H6 Air in some of the games I’ve bought in the recent Steam Spring Sale. Stay tuned for our full review coming soon.
