Apple Music and TikTok’s Play Full Song integration spells good news for social media-savvy music fans.

TL;DR

  • Apple Music and TikTok have announced new “Play Full Song” and “Listening Party” integrations.
  • The former allows full-song streaming within TikTok, while the latter encourages social streaming.
  • The features are expected to launch over the coming weeks.

Apple Music is among the most popular music streaming services on the market. Adding to its bow, subscribers will soon be able to stream entire songs within TikTok without leaving the app. To achieve this, Apple and TikTok announced a new integration called “Play Full Song”, which is launching globally over the coming weeks.

When users discover a track on TikTok’s For You Page or a song’s Sound Detail Page, they will see a Play Full Song button. Tapping it opens the Apple Music player directly inside TikTok, allowing subscribers to stream the complete track immediately. Because the feature runs on Apple’s MusicKit framework, the playback still occurs within Apple Music. That means each stream counts as a paid Apple Music play, ensuring artists and rights holders receive royalties.

TikTok becomes a direct gateway to Apple Music

The integrations give Apple Music an advantage over rival music streaming services.

The integration aims to close the gap between discovering music on TikTok and listening to the full track. Instead of jumping between apps, Apple Music subscribers can continue listening instantly. For example, the in-app Apple Music player lets users listen to the full song discovered on TikTok and continue into a personalized stream of recommended tracks. You can also save songs to Your Music and add tracks directly to existing Apple Music playlists.

Users who are not yet Apple Music subscribers will be prompted to start a three-month free trial when they tap the Play Full Song button. This approach gives Apple a unique subscription pathway inside one of the world’s most popular social platforms, an integration no rival streaming service currently offers.

TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms with nearly 2 billion users globally.

Play Full Song builds on TikTok’s existing Add to Music App feature, which lets users save songs they discover to streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, SoundCloud, Deezer, Anghami, Melon, and Tidal. TikTok says users have saved more than 3 billion tracks through its Add to Music App to date.

However, the new feature goes further than simply saving songs to a playlist. Apple Music executive Ole Obermann, who previously worked as TikTok’s global head of music, said the integration removes friction between discovery and listening. “Tapping into the music you love should feel effortless,” Obermann said. “With Play Full Song, Apple Music subscribers can move easily from discovering a track on TikTok to listening to it in full instantly, without breaking the flow.”

TikTok also introduces Listening Party

Apple Music has a huge library of songs and radio stations.

Alongside Play Full Song, TikTok and Apple Music are launching another feature called Listening Party. This creates a shared listening environment within TikTok, allowing fans to hear songs from an artist simultaneously. During these sessions, listeners can interact with each other in real time and potentially engage directly with the artist.

TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, Tracy Gardner, said the goal is to strengthen the connection between artists and fans. “TikTok is where music discovery and culture move at the speed of the community,” Gardner said. “Play Full Song gives fans a seamless way to go from discovery to full-length listening, and Listening Party provides a shared place to experience music together in real time.”

Indeed, TikTok has become one of the most influential platforms for music discovery, often pushing unknown tracks into global hits. By allowing users to stream full songs immediately, Apple Music can capture listeners when their curiosity peaks. The move arrives after TikTok shut down its own short-lived music streaming service in 2024. Instead of competing directly with streaming platforms, TikTok now appears ready to partner, with Apple Music receiving the deepest integration so far. If the rollout succeeds, TikTok could become one of the most powerful drivers of Apple Music subscriptions.
