TL;DR

  • Meze Audio has announced a new flagship IEM called ASTRU.
  • These feature single 10mm gold-layer dynamic drivers and pure titanium shells.
  • The ASTRU will debut on March 20, 2026, for $899.

Meze Audio has unveiled the ASTRU, a new flagship single-dynamic-driver in-ear monitor (IEM) that will debut at CanJam NYC and go on sale March 20, 2026, for $899. The audio company positions its latest installment as a high-end option for listeners seeking top-tier performance from a single-driver design.

According to Meze, ASTRU (named after the Romanian word for “star”) uses a simplified acoustic architecture built around a carefully engineered dynamic driver rather than multiple drivers and crossovers. Here’s everything we know about them before their official release.

Gold-layer dynamic driver design

The driver’s diaphragm dome features over 80 ultra-thin layers of gold.

The Meze Audio ASTRU house a 10mm multilayer composite dynamic driver diaphragm. The company says the driver dome incorporates more than 80 ultra-thin layers of gold, applied during a 48-hour physical vacuum DC magnetron sputtering process. This is then bonded to a titanium layer and mounted on a Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK) base.

Meze says this construction helps the driver balance speed and control while delivering fast transient response, smooth and extended treble, and natural warmth. While many high-end IEMs house multiple drivers, Meze claims ASTRU can achieve comparable resolution and spatial depth with a single driver. We’ll have to put the IEMs through the lab to test their real-world sound quality.

Titanium housings and refined fit

ASTRU’s shells are CNC-machined from a single block of pure titanium. Afterwards, they’re finished through a multi-stage electroplating process that produces a satin texture. Meze says each matched pair requires up to seven days of precision processing, highlighting the company’s focus on materials and manufacturing.

The shell geometry has also been refined to improve long-term comfort, helping maintain consistent isolation during extended listening sessions. The cable wraps behind the helix, which is ideal if you plan to use the IEMs in transit.

Balanced cable and portable-ready accessories

The packaging includes a 4.4 mm balanced cable and adapter, five ear tip sizes, and two carry pouches.

The earbuds ship with a premium cable that utilizes CNC-anodized aluminum hardware and terminates in a gold-plated 4.4mm balanced connector, a format often found on high-end portable DAC/amp devices. To improve compatibility, the package also includes a 4.4mm-to-3.5mm adapter for connecting to common household audio devices.

The IEMs ship with five ear tip sizes, including XS-XL, to help find the perfect fit. They also include a protective carrying pouch and soft PU leather envelope case for peace of mind during transit. Combined, this setup allows the IEMs to work seamlessly with both portable sources, such as laptops and smartphones, and dedicated Hi-Fi listening systems.
