iPhone Air sales indicate why Galaxy S26 Edge was cancelled

From 2021 to 2024, Samsung launched every new Galaxy S lineup of smartphones with three devices (not counting the FE models): a regular version, a Plus model, and an Ultra variant. However, in 2025, the brand launched the Galaxy S25 series with four devices, with the fourth being the Galaxy S25 Edge. It was the first phone with high-end specifications and an ultra-thin chassis in recent times.

Apple followed in Samsung’s footsteps and launched the iPhone Air, an ultra-thin phone with flagship hardware. The Cupertino-based tech giant is also planning to launch the iPhone Air 2. Samsung, on the other hand, has cancelled the Galaxy S25 Edge’s successor, the Galaxy S26 Edge, as it struggled to sell its first ultra-thin flagship phone. Well, the company may have taken the right decision.

According to multiple reports, Apple is struggling to sell the iPhone Air globally, and to boost its sales, the brand has been gradually lowering the device’s price. In China, the Cupertino-based tech giant launched the phone at CNY 7,499. However, the company is now selling it at CNY 5,499, a 21% drop in the price.

Similarly, in India, Apple launched the iPhone Air at INR 1,19,900. However, the brand has now slashed its price by INR 24,010, and is now selling the phone for INR 94,990. That’s a 20% drop in its price. While it is great news for people planning to buy the phone, it shows that Apple is struggling to sell the device.

Apple and Samsung struggling to sell their ultra-thin phones shows that there isn’t good demand for them. To that extent, Samsung cancelling the Galaxy S26 Edge seems like the right choice. As for the iPhone Air 2, it is said to bring changes that people have requested. It will be interesting to see if those upgrades will make more people buy it.
