Galaxy Z TriFold vs Fold 7 spec battle: Same DNA, different beasts

Samsung’s brand-new Galaxy Z TriFold phone-tablet hybrid looks like the Z Fold 7’s wider brother. It’s almost like Samsung stretched the Fold 7 into a 10-inch tablet. They have the same overall design and camera housing. But are these similarities only skin-deep?

Well, no. The Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z TriFold were certainly cut from the same cloth, even though each inevitably offers a different user experience. However, they also differ in a few interesting ways. Here’s how the two compare.

To drive the point home, let’s start by listing all the key ways in which these two foldable phones are alike. Then we can take a look at what makes them different.

As to how the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z TriFold are not alike, the most obvious difference lies in the foldable screen.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a single crease, 2,600 nits of brightness, a 1-120Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 2184 x 1958 pixels, and a pixel density of 368ppi.

The Galaxy Z TriFold features a 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that folds twice. It tops out at a lower peak brightness level of 1,600 nits. It also has a lower resolution of 2160 x 1583 and a lower pixel density of 269 ppi.

One last key difference between the two foldable panels is that, according to Samsung, the 10-inch dual-folding one features a new overcoat added to a shock-absorbing layer for better resistance.

Apart from how they perform and look, the Galaxy Z TriFold is also heavier, thicker when folded, thinner when unfolded, and has different battery specs.

Lastly, the Galaxy Z TriFold uses a few exotic or different materials, including a titanium hinge housing and a ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer back panel.

The Galaxy Z TriFold will go on sale in select markets on December 12 for roughly $2,500. The phone will arrive in the USA in the first quarter of 2026.
