Apple Music to allow lyric and song sharing to WhatsApp Status
- Apple Music is working on native lyric and song integration with WhatsApp Status.
- This would work similarly to Spotify’s feature launched earlier this year.
- Apple Music’s new feature could launch with iOS 26.2 in December 2025.
Apple is set to launch a new feature allowing lyric and song sharing from Apple Music to WhatsApp Status. This would match a similar Spotify feature launched earlier this year.
WhatsApp Status is the messaging app’s equivalent to Instagram Stories, allowing users to share texts, photos, videos, and voice notes with their contacts. Spotify launched integrations with the platform in March 2025. Now, listeners can share songs and podcasts directly with their contacts list through WhatsApp. This feature comes with several custom layouts and the option to include specific lyric segments. Conversely, you can only share Apple Music links to WhatsApp Status with minimal customization and no option for lyrics.
Apple’s new integration would finally allow fans to share songs or a few lines of lyrics directly to WhatsApp Status. This feature would likely use custom cards and links to direct fans back to Apple Music to stream the entire song. This update aims to provide parity with Spotify and is currently available through Apple’s first developer beta. At present, users can tap the “Share Lyrics” prompt and the new “WhatsApp Status” menu option. Doing so lets you select a few lines of lyrics before sharing a superior-looking Status update to WhatsApp. The feature is widely expected to launch in full with iOS 26.2 in December 2025.
There are some kinks to iron out before it does, though. Currently, WhatsApp Status doesn’t consistently appear as an option when sharing songs from Apple Music. While this isn’t a problem for lyric sharing, the company may have forgotten to disable the new option while it works on the feature. Apple will no doubt fix this bug before launch.
