Experience next-gen gaming for less.

Microsoft serves the next-generation for less with its budget-friendly Xbox Series S. The console packs the same high-performance CPU and SSD technology as Xbox Series X, while scaling back the GPU and removing the disc drive.

Microsoft unveiled a staged rollout among UK retailers, seeing preorders for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S go live simultaneously at 8 a.m. BST. Microsoft previously announced a list of participating stores, naming the Microsoft Store, GAME, Amazon, Dixons, and Currys PC World. The full retailer list also includes Argos, John Lewis, Smyths Toys, VERY, AO, Tesco, Simply Game, and Shopto.

PlayStation 5 preorders opened (and chaos ensued) across the world last week, with stock deleting within minutes amid high demand. Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S look destined for the same treatment, with current world events leaving many tied up at home this winter. U.S. and Canadian preorders open later today, set for 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET.

The Xbox Series X brings system-wide advancements over the Xbox One family, namely with huge leaps in processing, attributed to its latest generation AMD CPU and GPU. The device also introduces the first custom SSD drive, eliminating a crucial bottleneck from the previous generation and cutting load times across your favorite games.

The Xbox Series S features much of the same, albeit cutting back its GPU and RAM, smaller storage capacity, and no disc drive. It represents unmatched value headed into the next console generation, packing many of the same advancements as the best, despite being a cheaper option. The result is the ultimate box for 1080p or 1440p gaming, if you’re yet to grab a 4K TV.
