Microsoft has launched Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, its duo of next-generation consoles, and the successors to the Xbox One family. But with increased demand as users flock to set up new systems, an outage has affected a subset of users accessing its Xbox Live gaming network. According to DownDetector, user reports saw an outage impacting some users from 12:20 p.m. ET, primarily impacting those in Western Europe and the U.S. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue.

Update November 10 (2:30 p.m. ET) — Xbox Live services recovering

Microsoft has issued a further update, suggesting Xbox Live services should soon return to normal for most users. “We are seeing indications that we are on the path to recovery with this feature, and we expect to be back up and running shortly,” it stated via Xbox Support.

Update November 10 (3:20 p.m. ET) — Xbox Live service issues resolved

Microsoft now says the issues affecting Xbox Live have been resolved. “Users should now be able to sign into Xbox Live on all platforms,” Microsoft said in a tweet. “Thanks for hanging in there while things got sorted out. Please give it another try and let us know if you’re still running into issues.

While Xbox Live touches all aspects of the Xbox ecosystem, it leaves most users unable to log into Xbox Live. It leaves those affected unable to access all Xbox Live services, including multiplayer, downloads, and social features. The issues also extend beyond Microsoft’s video games platform for some, spilling over to services like Microsoft Office and its Outlook email service.

Microsoft has acknowledged the outage, stating its “looking into the issue and working on a fix.” It followed up with an additional statement via its Xbox Support site, detailing current progress on a fix. “Our engineers and developers are actively continuing to work to resolve the issue causing some members to have problems using this feature. Stay tuned, and thanks for your patience.” For the latest updates direct from Microsoft, its Xbox Live Status page provides the latest on network stability.

It comes at an unfortunate time for Microsoft, with today also marking the arrival of its next-generation Xbox consoles, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The console setup process guides users through updating and signing into Xbox Live, with current hiccups also limiting access to multiplayer services and its subscription offerings like Xbox Game Pass.
