Today, Twitter exploded with rumors that Microsoft was getting rid of the “Optimized for Xbox Series X” badge. The badge indicates a resolution and performance target of 4K and 60 frames per second (FPS) respectively. However, the frame rate of select games can go as high as 120 FPS like Ori and the Will of the Wisps on the upcoming machine.

However, that doesn’t seem like it’s happening despite the Dirt 5 box art floating around without the Optimized for Xbox Series X badge. We managed to get a statement from Microsoft about the Dirt 5 box art. The company said the following.

Retail boxes and online product description pages will clearly denote if a game is Optimized for Xbox Series X with specific iconography. We have nothing further at this time.

Xbox Series X Optimized

It’s unclear if the company will decide to make the badge smaller, but it’ll be clear if a game is Optimized for Xbox Series X or not. I personally think it’s a good thing because then you know what the resolution and performance targets are for the console.
