Minecraft Dungeons is an upcoming ARPG set in a gorgeous Minecraft-style world. Playable on Xbox, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch, Minecraft Dungeons promises to be a big release when it drops sometime in April, also as part of Xbox Game Pass on PCs and Xbox consoles.

The progression in Minecraft Dungeons is tied more to your gear than to your character directly. Like the regular Minecraft, it’s all about unlocking and levelling up enchantments on different gear types, as you tailor your playstyle. There are no fixed classes, but if you choose all skills and enchantments that enhance archery, for example, you can effectively create a “hunter” playstyle, for example.

We’ve been lucky enough to have some time in the closed beta for Minecraft Dungeons, and here are all the skills we’ve uncovered this far.

Minecraft meets Diablo

Minecraft Dungeons is an upcoming action RPG set in the blocky worlds of Minecraft! Team up with three friends and get your dungeon crawl on.

Artefact Skills

Skills are active abilities that you can equip, based on items and artefacts you collect throughout the game. They have varying strengths, and you can get more powerful ones as you go through the higher difficulty tiers throughout the game. Here are the ones we’ve found so far.

Fishing Rod

Formerly designed for relaxing weekends by the lake, this humble Fishing Rod is now a tool of death, repurposed in the battle against the Arch Illager. A quick swing of this weapon will pull a mob towards you and stun it for a quick kill. Useful for melee players who want to stop ranged mobs from running away.

Death Cap Mushroom

The Death Cap Mushroom is a power-up that gives you an attack and movement speed boost on a fairly hefty cooldown at base level. This is ideal for popping in a pinch for melee-oriented characters, to fight off harder mobs or crowds of enemies.

Tasty Bone

The Tasty Bone summons a trusty wolf companion to fight by your side and take agro from mobs until he dies (don’t let him die!) The higher level the item, the more damage it’ll deal. Sadly, you can’t pet him though.

Fireworks Arrow

The Fireworks Arrow attaches an explosive to your ranged slot, allowing you to deal boosted damage and knockback in a big area of effect every few dozen seconds. This also stacks with bow enchantments, allowing you to fire off multiple rockets at a time for example.

Hunter’s Armor

The Hunter’s Armor seems oriented around archery playstyles, boosting the amount of arrows you can collect while also boosting your ranged damage in general. Here are some of the generic and unique enchants we’ve found for Hunter’s Armor users so far.

Explorer

Explorer grants a small bit of health regen for every one hundred blocks you explore in a level, which can be pretty handy for both solo and co-op play.

Fire Trail

Fire Trail produces a plume of fire behind your character when you perform a dodge roll, igniting enemies in the process. Can be handy for kiting.

Food Reserves

Food Reserves produces a bunch of food items when you use a potion. While soloing this probably isn’t super useful, since you’ll be at full health anyway, but it can be a good bonus for your allies.

Wolf Armor

The Wolf Armor seems oriented around support-style play, with a shamanistic slant. It creates a weapon damage boost aura for your allies, and also makes your health potions heal them too.

Wolf Armor users get access to Swiftfooted, alongside other armor types. This grants a speed bonus after a dodge roll, which is handy for escaping groups of enemies.

Scale Mail

Scale Mail is a melee character’s best friend, boosting melee damage, damage reduction, and health. Use this if you want to get up close and personal with your enemies. Here are the Scale Mail-compatible enchants we’ve seen so far.

Swiftfooted

Swiftfooted grants you a small speed bonus after you roll, which can be handy for escaping mobs, and also chasing down ranged attackers like archer skeletons.

Health Synergy

Health Synergy grants you a small boost to health every time you active an artefact skill. Coupled with skills with short cooldowns, this could be very powerful indeed.

Speed Synergy

Similarly to Health Synergy, Speed Synergy grants movement speed when you activate an artefact skill.

Axe

Axes are a fast weapon that come with a conical slash at the end, knocking enemies around you back. This makes it a good off-hand for an archer, who may only be using melee as a last resort. Here are some of the enchants available for axes we’ve found so far.

Sharpness

Sharpness does what it says on the tin, pretty much. It provides a scaling increase to your melee damage, which is important for killing mobs!

Thundering

Thundering has a 30 percent chance to summon a bolt of lightning that deals additional damage in a small area around the user.

Bow

Best coupled with the Hunter’s Armor, the bow is a ranged weapon that all users get. Arrows are finite and must be found in levels, but characters with appropriate skills won’t run out of arrows anywhere near as quickly as characters that choose to prioritize melee, for example. Arrow hits do a small knockback and stagger effect, and come with a good array of utility and damaging enchants. Here’s what we’ve found so far.

Poison Cloud

Poison Cloud offers a 30 percent chance to produce a small area of poison damage on-hit, damaging all enemies caught in the cloud for three seconds.

Ricochet

Ricochet creates a small chance for your arrows to bounce, hitting additional enemies. The more enchant points you spend, the higher the Ricochet chance!

Unchanting

Unchanting is a fairly situational ability, at least in the early game. This grants a damage bonus specifically to mobs that are “enchanted,” whether that includes a specific type of mob or just monsters that have been buffed by a wizard’s innate abilities is unknown.

Bonus Shot

Bonus Shot is a useful enchant that guarantees an additional arrow shot every time you fire. More enchanting points increases the second shot’s damage, and it even stacks with abilities like Fireworks Arrow, granting you a second explosive.

Rapid Fire

Rapid Fire increases the speed at which you can fire arrows, dealing more damage over time.

Supercharge

Supercharge is boosts the bow’s natural ability to produce charge shots, by holding down the attack button. This makes them do far more damage, which is great for taking out mobs with high hit points.

Growing

Growing is an interesting ability that makes your shots grow, dealing more damage the further they travel.

Sickles

Sickles are a rogue-style rapid weapon that deals many smaller hits, as opposed to bigger, slow ones. We haven’t found many of them so far in-game, but they seem pretty awesome for someone wanting to play a more nimble, agile character.

Echo

Echo is a really cool ability that weaves in extra free attacks when you swing with the sickles, complete with a little ghostly echo of your character.

Sword

Your bread and butter melee weapon, the Sword is your basic-style “stick ’em with the pointy end” type of weapon, complete with a triple-slash ending with a small knockback. Here are the enchants we’ve seen for the Sword so far.

Leeching

When defeating a mob, you’ll steal a portion of its health if you choose this enchant.

Sharpness

Like other melee weapons, Swords also get access to Sharpness, granting extra scaling damage.

More to come!

That’s pretty much everything we’ve found so far, as we continue to plow through the Minecraft Dungeons Closed Beta. There promises to be far, far more stuff in the full game, as these are just the skills and enchants we’ve found in the two levels available in the beta (there are far more in the finished game!)
