Improved file sharing is on the way for Microsoft Teams
Sharing files through Microsoft Teams is about to become quicker and easier to manage. A new file sharing experience is on the way, according to the Microsoft 365 roadmap. The experience should “streamline sharing with Microsoft Teams” and make it easier to set permissions for shared files.
Microsoft details the new experience on its roadmap:
Streamline sharing with Microsoft Teams. You can now create a shareable link for any file stored in Teams and directly set the appropriate permissions. Additionally, you can also set permissions for files stored in SharePoint or OneDrive while composing a private chat or starting a channel conversation.
The feature is currently set to roll out sometime this month, but the Microsoft 365 roadmap is meant to generally outline plans, not set firm dates for features to come out. That means we might not actually see the feature this month.
Once it is out, it will be easier to create a link for a file and to set permissions about sharing that file. The option to set permissions for SharePoint and OneDrive files while in a private chat or within a channel should also come in handy.
