Electronic Arts and DICE have confirmed that Battlefield 2042 will launch with seven maps for the game’s primary multiplayer mode. Here’s a detailed overview of everything we know about each map so that you know what to expect when you drop into the battlefield at launch or during the Battlefield 2042 beta.

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope is a bright city map set in South Korea that puts players into the thick of urban warfare. The map will feature several skyscrapers that players can move, scale, and zipline between. Dense areas are broken up by open-air plazas where keen eyes and accurate shooting from range will prevail.

Manifest

Manifest is a unique map, with the layout primarily consisting of a maze of large cargo containers under Singapore’s tropical night sky. Players will also have to be on the lookout for storms of deadly tornadoes that can rip through the area and cause massive devastation. It’s likely that infantry combat will dominate here, though there may be areas on the map where vehicles are strong.

Orbital

Set in French Guiana, Orbital sounds like it’s going to be one of the most chaotic maps in Battlefield 2042, featuring many wide open spaces and deadly storms. As warfare rages throughout the map, a rocket will explosively launch into the sky.

Discarded

Discarded takes players to India’s west coast where teams will battle each other for control of behemoth sea vessels that have been beached and abandoned. The tight space within each ship makes them ideal for infantry combat, but vehicles and snipers will have the upper hand out in the open. Storms will routinely blow through the map, destroying everything in their path.

Renewal

Renewal might end up being one of the strangest Battlefield maps ever made. It features a solar farm and a small Egyptian town separated by one massive wall in the center of the map. The solar farm half of the map is rocky and desert-like, while the town half of the map is lush and has plenty of structures.

Hourglass

Hourglass features a city in Qatar that was abandoned due to a never-ending onslaught of sandstorms. These storms constantly block out the natural light of the sun, blanketing the city in a red haze that limits visibility. Both teams fight to control a convoy that’s trapped in the depths of the city.

Breakaway

Set in freezing Antarctica, Breakaway is Battlefield 2042’s largest map. Its long stretches of open space suggest that vehicle play will be very impactful on this map, though infantry will hold the advantage in the map’s mountainous areas. Players can also destroy fuel silos located throughout the map to create permanent fires and dynamically alter the state of the battlefield.

All Battlefield Portal maps

Battlefield 2042’s Portal mode is launching with six remade maps from previous Battlefield games, and more are coming in the future. Here’s what we know about each of the maps that will be available for Battlefield Portal.

Battle of the Bulge

In this map from Battlefield 1942, the German army launches a last-ditch counteroffensive against Allied forces in the thick of the Ardennes in Belgium. The map features a heavy emphasis on vehicles, although the dense foliage of the forest opens up several opportunities for creative infantry play.

As the German army rolls through Egypt with its mechanized might, British forces meet them with armor of their own in this remade Battlefield 1942 map. As tanks and planes on both sides meet in open combat, infantry units fight for control of structures and hilly terrain.

Arica Harbor

The fan-favorite Arica Harbor from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 returns in Battlefield Portal. The map features a strong focus on fast-paced infantry combat throughout the buildings and shipping containers of this Chilean port city. Vehicles play a smaller role, but can still provide support in the map’s less dense areas.

Valparaiso

In this Battlefield: Bad Company 2 map set just outside of a Chilean coastal city, American and Russian forces collide in intense infantry combat throughout a thick vegetation-filled jungle. The coastline portion of the map is more open, giving an advantage to snipers and vehicles.

Caspian Border

Set on the Turkmen-Iranian border, this Battlefield 3 map is perfect for all-out vehicular warfare thanks to its open design and large size. Snipers can perform well on this map, too, and infantry units can help allied vehicles gain the upper hand by controlling important structures on the map.

Noshahr Canals

The final map available in Battlefield Portal at launch is the returning Noshahr Canals map from Battlefield 3. This map takes players to the coast of Iran where American Marines launch a large attack on a large harbor. This map features both tight infantry combat and vehicular warfare, making it a great choice for fans who enjoy a mix of everything Battlefield has to offer.
