Alienware teases an upcoming collaboration with Cherry MX in a new video. The teaser video features a DeLorean, the iconic car from Back to the Future with gull-wing doors. The video concludes with an icon for “Project X” but doesn’t include any other details.
To find out more about the teased “Project X,” you’ll have to tune into Alienware’s Twitch channel between 3-5PM today.
Many of the best mechanical keyboards for gaming feature Cherry MX switches. These switches come in several flavors, which require different levels of force to register a keystroke. Our staff reviewer Rich Edmonds summarizes these different types of Cherry MX switches:
- Cherry MX Black – If you’re not a fan of loud click noises and tactile feedback, the Black switches are for you. Easier to tap keys multiple times. (60cN)
- Cherry MX Blue – Popular with typists due to the audible feedback, accompanied by the tactile “bump” when pressing down on a key. (60cN)
- Cherry MX Brown – The middle ground in the Cherry MX range. Quieter than the Blue switch, but retains soft tactile feedback. (55cN)
- Cherry MX Red – Similar to Black switches, these offer less resistance and are favored by gamers due to them requiring less force to actuate. (45cN)
We also have a full piece that breaks down what mechanical keyboard switches are.
A collaboration between Cherry MX and Alienware makes sense. Cherry MX makes some of the best keyboard switches in the industry and Alienware makes some of the best gaming desktops.
I’m curious to see how the DeLorean branding ties in. The DeLorean is famous for how its doors open upward, which resembles how a keyboard switch moves. The teaser video concludes with the gull-wing doors opening and fading into the Project X logo, which makes me think the way the doors open is related to the collaboration with Cherry MX.
